Day 17: Your highs and lows of the past year?
2016 was my first whole year out of education, my first taste of life in the real adult world.
I’ll start with the lows because they came first, at the beginning of the year I had no idea what career I wanted, not even an inkling! I went through multiple options, like architect, events management and I even though about joining a circus!
I had a job in the tourist industry of Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire. Working as a waitress day in day out dealing with not so nice people, enough to send anyone crazy! It really got me down, my friends had left to go to uni, all enjoying themselves and meeting new people. I felt really lonely, like no one really understood. My parents were trying to encourage me to do something, which stressed me out more. It was a really horrible time for me, there was no light at the end of the tunnel.
However the year got better, by April I had decided that I wanted to go into teaching after doing some work experience in a school, which I would then apply for in September, I in August I applied to the Camp America Program for summer 2017, you can check out my post on that. I went through the interview and got accepted, by December I had been placed at a girls camp in Upstate New York, which I am so excited about! I got interviews at both universities, for January.
Even though my year didn’t start off great, It ended really well! I am so excited about this year as a lot is going to change for me, my first solo travel to America, leaving my family and boyfriend for 4 months is going to be challenging, but I know it will be an unforgettable experience.
