Day 20: How important do you think education is?
The importance of education is like Marmite, you are either for or against it! Personally I am all in favour of education, it just means you have no limitations, hold ups, the world is you oyster.
I used to spend most of my day sat at the table revising, occasionally I would make a cup of tea with a biscuit on the side, I would wake up around 9am on a Saturday/Sunday and revise all day until about 9pm, I think I enjoyed it (sounds weird doesn’t it?)! I would make all these beautiful notes, all colour coded, with drawings and fancy lettering, put them up on my wall to stare at and process for like a month.
I think I actually miss having to revise and learn, I can’t say I miss the essay’s and endless amount of notes to highlight, but in general I liked it. At A-level I studied Art and design, which meant no pretty notes, or cute stationary (sad…very sad)! ICT which I thought was a subject you either get or you don’t, you know the in’s and out’s of management systems or you don’t simple. So I did very little ‘revising’ for that one, it was based mostly on coursework anyway!
I finished school with 14 GCSE’s all A*-C and 4 A-Levels ABCC.
Whereas my younger sister finished school with 4 GCSE’s In Britain that doesn’t even qualify you for McDonald’s! However she got into college to study theatrical hair and media makeup off of her own skill set. She is aiming to work in the industry, and she definitely will end up there!
Even though I am more qualified than Lara, if she has a successful career she will earn a great deal more than I ever will. So is it worth it? Some people have natural-born talents, why can’t they just pursue that? People who go to university end up with a lot of debt and in the current economy, they have no more employability than others.
There are two sides to education, which highlight the differences between me and Lara, but overall, education is important, we would not develop social or academic skills without it!
